The Charity
When someone asks Search Dog Foundation founder Wilma Melville why she started her organization- especially at an age when most people are enjoying retirement- she simply replies "I went to Oklahoma City". You can read Wilma's inspiring and amazing story here but the short version is that the Search Dog Foundation trains rescued dogs to become search dogs. And since 1995, SDF's dogs have worked in times of tragedy- from the 9/11 attacks, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and, more recently, after the tornadoes in Joplin, Missouri.
The Song
"After the Frost" was inspired by the seemingly magical early morning frosts that appear in the late fall here in Indiana. Being the early-bird in the house, there are few things I enjoy more at this time of the year than watching the sun rise over a recently harvested field covered with frost.
This song is a duet between the piano and an ebow guitar. The ebow is a device that I've been using on my guitars since my first cd in 1993. In this song, the sound of the ebow does a good job representing those first rays of sun touching the frost.
